WHO AM I?
Once upon a time, I had an internet dating profile that began ... "Considerate, caring, committed, conservative, curious, communicative, casual woman seeks ..." Sharing the remainder is moot, though it garnered several responses, dates, and a relationship. No fairy tale ending there for me, though I read 23% of people who meet enter a long term relationship. However, my profile, and stint online, ended politely, playfully, and purposefully, populated ... with alliteration!
My days of internet dating are over ... at least for now ... and you will decide if I bring these qualities into the therapy room. I invite you to come visit and find out.
Married over 20 years ... divorced ... mother ... Nana ... sister ... friend, peer, dancer, walker, reader, inquisitor, quilter, lover of the outdoors ... who has a huge belief in the healing power of relationship ... love for families of all sizes, shapes, and compositions ... and hope for lasting personal change and improved well-being. That's me.
After obtaining Masters and Doctoral degree of Education in counselling psychology from the University of Toronto at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, I qualified as a Registered Psychotherapist, Clinical member of the Canadian Association for Couple & Family Therapy, and Gestalt Therapist. This means, even when a client sits alone with me in the therapy room, I remember and consider their inherent interconnectivity to others, their community, and past.
Through my midlife career change I have accrued twenty years - and counting - of clinical experience in mental health. I like working from an experiential, "here and now," perspective. My interests in family systems, positive psychology & wellness, mindfulness, alternative therapies, and most recently the new adventures and advances of neuroscience in clinical psychotherapy, inform my work.
As a Certified Havening Techniques® Practitioner, I can facilitate the gentle processing of encoded traumatic events and emotional disturbances while relieving stress, building resilience and well-being. I can also help to put self healing into your hands!
